A Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the River Mersey Uplands catchment including Hyde, Ashton-under-Lyne, Denton, Stalybridge and Glossop.
Flooding is possible for The Mersey Uplands catchment includes Rivers Goyt, Tame, Sett and Etherow and their tributaries. Other locations which may be affected are around Mossley, New Mills, Hazel Grove, Marple, Romiley and Hyde. .
Low lying land and roads will be affected first.
Be prepared to protect yourself, family, pets and property.
A Flood Alert is being issued in preparation for the rainfall throughout tonight and into tomorrow morning. River levels are forecast to reach their highest levels around 03:00 on 18-03-2017. We are currently not anticipating any flooding to property. We will continue to monitor and will update this message as the situation develops. We are out clearing debris screens to minimise potential blockages and flow restriction. There is further rain expected throughout the weekend and this message will be updated if the situation changes.
– Prepare a flood kit including a torch, batteries, mobile phone, warm clothes, water, food and any prescription medicines you may need.
– Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.
– Farmers should consider moving livestock and equipment away from areas likely to flood.
